Welcome to Holy Angels

Holy Angels School has served the community of Sidney and other parts of Shelby County for 150 years. The first official designated school facility was located in the church created by a partition in the rear of the church. The first brick building for a school was built west of the church in 1876. In 1936 fire destroyed the old grade school. The current building opened November 8, 1937, to house both grade and high school students. On November 4, 1990 the dedication of the Grade School addition/expansion was held. This addition included the rooms now housing the kindergarten, kitchen/cafeteria, and the junior high rooms.

School enrollment for the 2007-08 school year is 267 students. There are twenty teachers on staff, seventeen (17) are female and three (3) are male. There is very little teacher turnover in our staff. We are very dedicated to the success and survival of Catholic education.

The administration/teacher ratio is 1/20 and the student/teacher ration is 1 to 15/16. Both are small and lead to good education, assistance, and excellence in our school. We have always been known as an excellent educational facility in Sidney. Our uniqueness lies in the experience of our faculty which provides ongoing, consistent, and stable learning. All of the faculty is willing to find ways to improve and work toward any improvement needed. We meet challenges “head on.” The faculty is flexible and resourceful.

Holy Angels School has always focused on faith formation, academic excellence, and Christian responsibility. Throughout this time, it has been mostly parish funded. We do receive auxiliary service funds, cost reimbursement funds, and Title programs. Our PTO, a very successful fund raising organization, pays the cost for our school nurse and librarian, and contributes funds towards the art program and various other school projects. In addition, our faculty and staff hold an auction each year and three chicken dinner fund drives. These activities generate significant funds that are contributed to the school. The breakdown of our funding is as follows:

Tuition and Tuition Aid …………. 39.97%
Parish Subsidy …………………... 45.57%
State Reimbursement …………… 7.79%
Fund Raises and Other Income …. 6.67%

Total 100.00%

We, also, possess great parental and community support. Parents at our school are very supportive and generous. Our uniqueness lies in the family atmosphere at our school. The teachers themselves function as a family. Because of the consistency, we have teachers who have taught the parents of their students. That really opens the lines of communications. Our children are very welcoming and caring for each other. We open our school to all who enter and they, too, become part of our HA family. As our theme for the 2007-08 school year states: HA is great – Celebrate! (1858-2008).
